‘Helmet for my pillow’ under my pillow

Posted on: May 20, 2010

Due to my current obsession with “The Pacific,” I am collecting all things related to it, starting with the books that made it possible – “Helmet for my Pillow” by Robert Leckie and the “With the Old Breed” by Eugene Sledge. Both told their stories – their experiences during the World War II.

As my colleague predicted, these books will be (a) very hard to find, and (b) reprinted because of the demand due to “The Pacific” fever. And boy, she was right! I scoured through different bookstores for copies and I almost gave up. Good thing when we were hanging out at Powerbooks Glorietta 3, she saw it in the bestseller’s list. The thing was that branch was already out of copies and had to call another branch to reserve the last two remaining copies. So without further thinking (sans the price – PHP699 lang naman =)) we reserved both copies.

And I got them this afternoon! Here’s my copy:

it' under my pillow for easy access! =)

Now, I gotta find this:

where can i find this?

Funny when something really amuses me, I can’t stop blabbing about (and spending on) it. I even saw that they already have a book version of “The Pacific” authored by someone whose name I forgot, which costs more than a thousand pesos. I’m just on a very tight budget these days so I mustered all my self-control and walked away without it. Maybe next time. =)
